Local Attractions
About 30 minutes away from the hotel you can
visit the medieval towns, with a lot of history
and art, like Florence and
Collodi, place of inspiration
for the Pinocchio’s writer.
Pisa and Arezzo are 40 minutes away. Siena,
Luca, San Gimignano, Volterra, are 1 hour away
of the magnificent Francigena way , the same
place that pilgrims used to walk during the
middle age times offering so their sacrifice in
the way between Paris and Rome.
In the ancient town of Artimino, 5km away, you
can visit “La Ferdinanda”, which is the
beautiful Medici family’s home, known as “the
mansion with 100 chimneys”, built in 1500 by
Ferdinando I, projected by Buontalenti and used
as family’s hunting place in the winter. You
will also find here a museum with Etruscan
works, as the Etruscan people lived and
dominated that land before the romans. Near by,
between Poggio and Caiano you will also find
another Medici mansion, built by Lorenzo II
Magnifico in 1475.
Montelupo Fiorentino is another charming town
situated 7km from the hotel, where there are
various artists that make handcrafts and
potteries. Since the Renaissance, their local
hand painted porcelain vases and other
ornaments which were popular
among the noble and rich local families.
Carmignano
The
Carmignano region is known
for producing the famous Chianti’s wine, with
its wonderful vineyards always opened
for visiting and tasting. Our local wines are:
Carmignano DOCG, Barco Reale DOC and Ruspo di
Carmignano. Our Hotel
Barco Mediceo is
situated on the same road where the Carmignano’s
Chianti
wine
is produced.
There are a large
and privileged gastronomic variety to offer to
the tourists. At the
Barco Mediceo
you will find our own
extra-virgin olive oil. The locals produce
their homemade salame, ham, cheese, dried figs
and delicious almonds biscuits. All good
appetisers to be drank with the “Saint Wine”.
